About Diversion Safes

Long gone are the days when people could feel secure leaving their doors unlocked or windows wide open while they were away. For decades the crime rate in the United States has been on the rise, and burglars regularly break into homes to take what they can. This led to people demanding a reliable method of keeping their expensive and beloved belongings secure.

The Home Safe
One of the first solutions came in the form of a small, heavy safe that could store money, jewelry, important documents and anything else you want within your home. The safes were said to be extremely hard to open, and no criminal would have enough time to try and get into them. When a burglar does enter a home, they are in a hurry. Most home robberies don't last for more then 8 minutes, because the thief is eager to get out as quickly as possible. A good criminal knows that if they spend very much time in any one house they will be far more likely to get caught. A sleeping resident may wake up, occupants who had gone for a night on the town can return at any time or a neighbor who knows that nobody should be home may hear noises and become suspicious. Any of these scenarios could lead to the police being called and arriving on the scene to find the perpetrator in the act. Household safes were thought to be a great idea, because no burglar would waste time trying to get into them while in a home illegally.

They didn't. What they did instead was pick up the safes and take them away. That gave the law breakers all the time they needed to bust into it without fear of getting caught. Even larger home safes can be picked up by two or three criminals and carried out to a waiting truck or van. People learned about this serious flaw the hard way, and the search for something better was on.

Diversion Safes
One option people tried was hiding their valuables. They would placed expensive items in a plastic bag and tape them to the inside of the toilet tank. Another common trick was to hide jewelry or other items deep in the back of the freezer. A loose floorboard could be moved to create a small hiding space that would later be covered with a throw rug. All of these ideas were good, be it wasn't long before criminals picked up on them and started looking in those exact areas right away.

Finally a solution was found in the diversion safe. This is a safe that is made as an exact replica of another product. Each one was designed to look just like a household item, but they were hollow so the owners could store whatever they wanted inside. They were created in several different styles that would blend in to every room of the house. Decoy safes were produced for the bathroom in the form of hair spray and shaving cream. Kitchens became hiding places with safes that imitated cans of soda or even dog food. Diversion safes were placed into bedrooms in the shape and size of candles, books and cd's. Any room in the house could include a diversion safe that looked exactly like a working electrical outlet, but was really a hiding spot for costly merchandise. Even the garage was included with replicas of auto products. Outside of the house the illusion was accomplished with sprinkler heads and even rocks - owners would just have to be careful to remember which one was phony.

Diversion safes allow people to keep their possession secure and hidden away from criminals. During the time a burglar spends inside of a home, there is no way they will be able to look through every can, book or household product just in case. Your most valued items finally have a way to remain perfectly safe.
